Güembé Chair (special edition) - Una Raiz Woodworks

The Güembé chair was named after a Bomba rhythm originating from Ponce, Puerto Rico. Güembé is a joyful sound, full of power, poise, and playfulness, and is traditionally associated with courtship, romance and flirtatious gestures. In each hand-carved gouge and curve I have poured love, and hope, and honor for those who came before us, and the full intention that you will experience these feelings when you enter the room, or use it to pen a letter or talk to a friend, or simply close your eyes and run your fingers along the textured seat edge.

  • encourages an engaged posture for dining, active reading, or working.
  • Contoured to fit the body and alleviate pressure
  • Customizable height: in-stock chairs are made extra tall so they may be cut down to best accommodate your body.
  • Special Edition in Sipo & Bird's Eye Maple (pictured) available for immediate purchase. Other variations available made-to-order.

In a tree, and its wood, I see a solid monument to water. When it splits, I hear thunder and icebergs cracking. This work is so much bigger than art egos or tables or bowls. Water is life, it rushes up the sapwood fountains and down our veins, it binds us together from the start of time, ever powerful in its unending flow.

Candela means candle, but when we say “échale candela” in music we’re saying set it on fire, pull out all the stops. When we say “dale candela,” we’re saying give them hell. It is a word for passion, a word for protest.

In the Camino Despierto living room series, simple lines flow into sleek, asymmetrical curves, with carefully considered overhangs and undercuts that add to the subtle three-dimensionality of the piece. The result is a design aesthetic that is open and lightweight, that allows the natural beauty of the material to sing without feeling cluttered or overwrought, all in order to bring a sense of freshness and clarity into your home.

"Camino Despierto" means "Woken Path." My wish is that these pieces will help channel a feeling of alignment and awakened purpose in your life.

  • Fun asymmetrical design adds a sense of flow and fresh energy into your space
  • End tables, coffee tables and lounge chairs available
  • Customizable drawer pulls and fabric choices
